Expungement, Clean Slate, and limited access

People search three different tools as if they were one form. Expungement removes or seals a case under the rules for that outcome. Clean Slate is the automatic limited-access program people search when they did not file anything and still see a case. A limited access order is the petition people search when Clean Slate did not clear it. A pardon is a different application, to the Board of Pardons, and people confuse it with expungement.

The outcome of the old case decides whether a petition can be filed: withdrawn, acquitted, ARD completed, summary, or a conviction. The county of the old case matters. Send that outcome in the first line.

What people hope it does

Related searches are “will this show on a background check,” “employer can see a dismissed case,” and “expunge a juvenile record.” This page cannot tell you the case is eligible. It tells the desk which lawyer should look.

Nothing on this page is a prediction of what a case is worth, and it is not legal advice. A message asks the desk to review the facts and refer them.

What to send

Requests to clear or limit an old record. The outcome of the old case and the county decide whether it can be filed.

The useful first facts are the place, the date, the court if there is one, and what happened. Records can wait until a lawyer asks for them.

How a referral works

A message asks the desk to read the facts and refer them to a lawyer who handles this work. It does not hire that lawyer, and it does not create an attorney-client relationship.

The lawyer who receives the introduction decides whether to take the matter and talks with you about deadlines and fees.
