A referral is an introduction. The hiring decision is still yours. These are the questions worth asking on the first real conversation.

Ask who will actually appear in court or talk to the insurer. A firm name is not the same thing as the person doing the work.

Ask whether they handle this kind of case in this court, this county, or this state. Nearby is not the same as admitted there.

Ask what the next deadline is, in their view, and what you should not do before that date. Signing a release, missing a hearing, or giving a recorded statement can matter more than the opening story.

Ask how they charge and what the first invoice covers. Get that in writing before you send a retainer. If they will not say, that is an answer too.

Ask what they need from you this week, and what they do not need yet. People lose time hunting for records nobody has asked for.

If the answers are vague, call us back and say so. We would rather refer the file again than leave you with a conversation that never became a representation.
